Transportation

In order to be successful, North metro businesses need a vast, high quality, and efficient transportation system to acquire raw materials, ship finished goods to market, and enable employees and consumers to safely get to and from work and school.  The transportation system in this area is inadequate and underbuilt. Consequently, the north metro is less attractive as a business location because of the increased cost of transportation and the difficulty of attracting employees.

The members of the Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce urge our government officials and especially our local leaders to focus their energies on advocating for funding for the north metro transportation system to include expansion of capacity, maintenance of existing roads and bridges, transit, and access and clarity of road designations.  The funding burden should not fall disproportionately on local businesses.

The Twin Cities North Chamber urges our local government officials to seek funding for the following projects to help foster continued economic growth in the north metro area:

1.       Expansion of capacity on 35W

2.       Expansion of 694 to a full six-lane beltway

3.       Completion of the final leg of Hwy 610

Approved: 4/22/2013
