I currently operate a facility where I have about 80 direct
reports. Employee engagement is a
constant evolving and necessary part of our business to be successful. I’ve been told two parts make up employee
engagement: attitude and behavior, as well as pride and loyalty for the
business. Being a great advocate for the business comes from engagement. As a manager or business owner, we are always
looking for ways to encourage and further engage our team.
We have found volunteering increases employee
engagement. Volunteering is a great
opportunity for team building and it helps to initiate pride in the company you
work for. The summer is a great
opportunity for employee engagement and volunteering. 5K’s are everywhere. If you cannot have staff leave during the
day, a weekend event is often available every day during the summer. Have your staff pick who they want to
support, and run that race. The Chamber
is always looking for volunteers to help with major events like the Golf
Tournament, Holiday Charity Luncheon, Gala, and more. Not only does this engage your employee, but
they get a networking opportunity on top of it.
Every year we pick a park to clean up.
After we are done, we grill and play games like volleyball or a good old
fashion three-legged race. Our jobs can
be stressful, and a little fun while helping our environment or another person
or group can go a long way to make our workday a little more enjoyable.
